am going to get to the point soon, but wanted to mention today is the first glorious "summer" day in the bay area. walked to the grocery store and everybody's out. saw some tai chi in the panhandle right next to some kids playing on a pile of rocks - seriously, kids whooping it up, with parents looking on, having a blast, digging around a pile some city workers must have left behind. summer fever has struck. so, sorry, home, i'm going to enjoy this while i can.

now, the point: when i left for los angeles in the fall of '99, my friend mike b. turned me onto a band called kleenex girl wonder. the "band" is essentially one guy (graham smith) who plays all the instruments. anyway, i'm not so diligent about having all my music with me all the time and recently started listening again to the album ponyoak. it's 25 songs and the story goes, or at least the one i was told or read at some point, was that it's an album of love songs. then halfway through the writing the songs for the record, graham smith's girlfriend broke up with him. after that, the other half became break-up songs. all these love songs and break-up songs jumbled together and there's a few tracks where you can here his voice break. i'm no music critic, but it's quite good if you enjoy ambiguity and i can't believe i've let myself forget about it for so long.
